Lisivo runs entirely in your browser. This page describes exactly what happens to a document you open, without marketing shortcuts.
Your document is never uploaded
The file is read by your browser and never sent anywhere. There is no upload endpoint, no storage bucket and no server-side processing. If you disconnect from the network after loading the page, importing a PDF still works.
What is stored, and where
The extracted text, chapter list and your listening position are saved in your browser's local database (IndexedDB) so you can pick up where you left off. This data stays on this device and in this browser. It is not synced, and it is not visible from any other machine.
Automatic deletion after 7 days
Every document carries an expiry date. When you open Lisivo, anything past that date is deleted from your browser. You can also clear everything at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings.
Voices: the one thing to know
Narration uses the speech voices built into your operating system or browser. Some of those voices run locally on your device; others (the Google voices in Chrome, for example) are produced by a remote service, which means the sentence being read is sent to that service by the browser itself. The voice picker labels each voice as on-device or network, so the choice is yours. Choosing an on-device voice keeps everything local.
One cookie, and it holds one word
Choosing a language stores it in a cookie so the site opens in that language next time. Its entire contents are "en" or "fr": no identifier, no session, nothing that could single you out. It is read only to decide which page to serve. It exists because that decision has to happen on the server, before the page renders, where a browser's local storage cannot be read.
No account, no analytics, no advertising
There is no sign-up, no tracking script, no advertising identifier and no analytics cookie. The language cookie above is the only one the site sets.
